The Trouble with Goodbye by Sarra Cannon ~ Review & Quote-tastic (@sarramaria)

I thought that The Trouble with Goodbye was a good New Adult read. I liked the romance and there were a few hard issues that the characters dealt with.

One night can change everything…

Two years ago, Leigh Anne Davis shocked everyone in tiny Fairhope, Georgia when she broke up with her wealthy boyfriend to attend an Ivy League university a thousand miles away. At school, she finds a happiness and independence she’s never known.

Until one terrifying night takes it all away from her.

With no place else to go, Leigh Anne heads home to reclaim her old life. A life she worked so hard to escape. On the outside, she seems like the same girl everyone has always known. But deep inside, she’s hiding a terrible secret.

That’s when she meets Knox Warner, a troubled newcomer to Fairhope. His eyes have the same haunted look she sees every day in the mirror, and when she’s near him, the rest of the world fades away. But being with Knox would mean disappointing everyone all over again. If she wants to save what’s left of her old life, she has no choice but to say goodbye to him forever.

Only, the trouble with goodbye is that sometimes it’s about courage and sometimes it’s about fear. And sometimes you’re too broken to know the difference until it’s too late.

I picked up The Trouble with Goodbye when it was free back in March and I thought it was about time I read something by Sarra Cannon. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was swept away in this world, with two damaged characters who are trying to rebuild their lives in Fairhope.

Leigh Anne had returned to her home town because she had been struggling since an incident occurred 18 months prior. She crashed into town and was rescued by a blue eyed guy, and soon all the emotion she had been withholding pours out of her, and he seemed to understand her. The more time they spend together, the closer they get and they both share the secrets of their pasts.

I liked getting to know Leigh Anne and I kind of figured out what happened to her early on. I liked that she was willing to do what she wanted, and spent time with Knox, despite the rumours going around. Knox seemed like a tough guy, but deep down he was a sweet guy. He had a rough time for a while there, but has discovered his passion and fitted into Fairhope quite well.

I wanted more build up to Leigh Anne and Knox’s relationship, because it didn’t quite feel fully developed properly before they started exchanging the love word. They were sweet together, and seemed to have a strong connection, but I would’ve liked more interaction with them. Throughout it all, they remained devoted to one another, despite what others wanted them to do, and I was glad to see them fight for what they wanted and what was right.

There were some tough issues faced throughout this story, and I felt that Sarra Cannon addressed them tastefully which showed me that she’s a great writer. The Trouble with Goodbye is written in first person point of view from Leigh Anne’s perspective, and was a fast paced read with a touch of angst. It was sweet at times and I closed the book happy with the decisions made by the characters and that they’ll get through it stronger together. I look forward to reading more from this world!

I love Knox's way of thinking! And the second one I thought was sweet.

“Isn’t there some rule of logic, then, that says if you’re attracted to me and you want to spend time with me, then you should just do it? Or am I wrong about the way we feel about each other?”

I’m still working through a lot of shit, but for some reason, I’m less broken when I’m with you.”
“Maybe it’s because we’re both broken,” I say.

Her novels often stem from her own experiences growing up in the small town of Hawkinsville, Georgia, where she learned that being popular always comes at a price and relationships are rarely as simple as they seem.

Her best selling Young Adult paranormal series, Peachville High Demons, has sold over 200,000 copies, and has spawned an entire world of different series, including Sacrifice Me and the new continuation series starting with Emerald Darkness.

She is a devoted (obsessed) fan of Hello Kitty and has an extensive collection that decorates her desk as she writes. She currently lives in South Carolina with her amazingly supportive husband and her adorable son.
