History: Originally born the son of an
English dairy farmer under the rule of Henry VIII, Xander had once been a
carefree young man, fighting with his friends and flirting with the farmers'
daughters. Despite his good intentions,
Alexander has always found himself on the other side of the law. Though he tries to be good, his passion and
pride often turn to hate and would place him in the middle of rebellions and
movements that aim to change the status quo--sometimes those movements have
bettered the world, some proved to be misguided. After having the misfortune of falling in
love with a beautiful, spoiled princess with porcelain skin and a steely gaze,
Alexander consults a mystic he encounters along the road. That was his first encounter with destiny and
the grip it can have over someone's life.
He misunderstood the mystic's prophecy that he and Tatiana would be
together forever and like a lovesick puppy, naively believed a pauper could
marry a princess. Compulsive and
temperamental, Alexander always acts first and thinks after. These compulsive acts, and the ugliest traits
of both Alexander and Tatiana, would lead them both to lifetimes of pain and
misery.
Without knowing what lied ahead, Xander would go on
to die on a guillotine's platform, sink beneath the cold waters of a New World,
and suffer as a city burns around him, each time meeting his end with Nicky at
his side.
Xander has held many occupations and picked up many
traits over the last few centuries. The most useful being the skill of
pick pocketing he learned from a homeless French girl while traveling with his
gypsy family through the small villages of pre-World War II Austria. Together they would help steal food for their
camp and help refugees escape the Nazi grip on Europe. Until he died and she lived on.
But
fate always lead him to Nicky, the girl he loved beyond time and hate.
Character Breakdown: Xander is most known for his passion--passion
for his family, his friends, and for Nicky.
Sometimes his passion burned so bright it would get him into trouble,
making him ignore how it might affect others, who he might hurt. Along with passion, Xander has always been
proud, always living the life of someone who has been given little in life with
much to overcome. He is hard-headed and
jealous, especially where Nicky is concerned.
But that has kept him going, enduring death again and again, because
despite the pain and blood, he will never give up on her.
Author Bio:
Kelly Riad is an American writer who graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a degree in journalism. Because's she's always been a lucky little brat, her life has taken her all over the world from the hot, humid streets of Hong Kong and the crowded markets of Cairo, to the cobbles of Vienna and the ruins of Rome from where she has shamelessly stolen ideas and material for her stories.
She self-published her first young adult novel, Always Me, in September 2011. Other Novels include Return to Arèthane and Prince of Arèthane.
